It’s no exaggeration to say that a city’s tourism office plays a critical role in its economic health and vitality. In particular, making it easy for people to find information online about everything from accommodations to entertainment and attractions helps ensure that visitors enjoy their time in the city. It also increases the odds that they’ll tell others about their trip and generate more interest in the area.
Tempe Tourism Office turned to Monomyth to breathe new life into its website and position it as a one-stop-site for all things Tempe. To achieve that goal, we identified three primary focus areas: increasing site speed, crafting a seamless, mobile-first experience, and developing an information hierarchy that capitalizes on AI (artificial intelligence) to make it simple for visitors to find what they need.
In tourism, every day that you aren’t putting your best foot (or interface) forward represents lost opportunities as disappointed visitors consider other locations. To expedite construction of the new, enhanced site, we leveraged a component-based approach and the Gutenberg WordPress editor. As part of the build, we implemented a flexible content management system that allows Tempe Tourism to update the site with ease as the seasons change or new promotions are launched.
Our efforts were amplified by a productive collaboration with Onward, a strategic partner on the project, who brought insight to the intersection of design, content, and SEO. We worked together to produce a thoughtful content and UX (user experience) strategy that will give the site maximum value and usability going forward.
Today, Tempe Tourism Office engages with online visitors much more effectively thanks to a number of new site features. A dynamic home page loads quickly and displays a fresh, clean design, while the site’s enhanced blog allows readers to immerse themselves in the latest information on the city. There’s also an intuitive calendar with details on the wide range of events that take place in Tempe. And finally, a beautiful interactive map lets visitors see the “big picture” and then drill in with a tap or click for information on attractions, dining, and accommodations.
The organization’s tagline is “Tempe… Refreshingly Arizona,” and we believe the new website reflects and supports that statement nicely.
